Riviera Beginnings: A Spring Unfolds Along the Coast
Nice: Balcony Pages and Market Mornings
My mornings in Nice began with the scent of orange blossoms and the rustle of market stalls coming to life. I’d sip juice and scribble notes onto sunlit pages, my view filled with pastel shutters and curved iron balconies. One café in particular became my little writer’s nook.
They told me Matisse often sat just a few streets away, sketching the same palm-lined promenade I walked every day.
The markets buzzed with color—flowers, spices, and laughter tangled in the air. In a belted trench and striped blouse, I strolled the rows with a woven tote and nowhere to be. Every exchange felt like a poem—short, vivid, warm.
Cannes: Quiet Cafés and Red Carpets
Cannes was a contradiction I loved—glamour and calm coexisting in a single breath. One morning, I curled up in a café corner with a pastry and espresso, flipping through a glossy magazine like it was a love letter from the city.
Someone whispered that Brigitte Bardot’s first Cannes appearance caused such a stir they say the pastries sold out by noon.
Later, I wandered up the red-carpet steps in a flowing neutral-toned set, striped and soft in the breeze. Even empty, the space held echoes of flashbulbs and champagne toasts.
Plage des Graniers: Sunset Walks and Barefoot Thoughts
In Saint-Tropez, I wandered down to Plage des Graniers as the sun melted into the sea. The golden hour wrapped everything in silk. I wore a soft, tied maxi dress and carried a basket that seemed to gather memories more than things.
A local told me this cove was once the secret spot where fishermen traded sea-glass charms—tokens of good luck before heading out again.
Each step in the sand felt like a heartbeat. I thought of all the people who’d walked here before me—artists, writers, dreamers—leaving little pieces of themselves behind in the tide.

The Riviera reveals herself slowly. Each town a chapter. Each breeze a sentence. Each morning a fresh page.
